The idea
A problem may be real, but the way it is presented can make it difficult to understand. This guide offers simple questions that help turn a long narrative into a clear picture while preserving the human dimension and making the issue easier to understand.
The seven questions
- Who are you, to the extent needed to understand the context?
- What is the specific problem?
- When did it begin?
- Which entity or subject is it connected to?
- What have you done so far?
- What impact has it had on you?
- What outcome are you requesting, stated clearly?
The one-minute rule
A case can be condensed into: the problem + its impact + action already taken + the requested outcome.
Privacy
Clarity does not require revealing sensitive information. Identity numbers, health information, documents or the names of other parties should not be shared on a public platform.
Knowledge value
The ability to explain a problem is a life skill: in communication, meetings, requests for support and even family dialogue.
