To recognise that your choices have consequences and accept your share of the outcome instead of always looking for someone else to blame.
Responsibility begins with simple things: keeping an appointment, correcting information you published, apologising when you make a mistake and finishing what you committed to do.
It also means knowing the limits of your role: do not promise what you cannot deliver, and do not present specialist advice as fact when you are not qualified to give it.
How do we live it?
- State clearly what you can and cannot do.
- Correct mistakes quickly.
- Do not pass on news before verifying it.
- Respect privacy.
- Look at your own role in a problem before searching for someone else to hold responsible.
A question for reflection
What do I ask of others but fail to practise to the same degree myself?
